Bordallo Pinheiro Economy Sardine

Bordallo Pinheiro Economy Sardine

The broody hen of Economics was the cover of the magazine “A Paródia” in 1900, where Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro expressed discontent of political life.

He decided to caricature the different aspects of Portugal’s social and economic reality at that time …or is it nowadays?

Originally designed in the 19th century, each iconic fish celebrates Portuguese culture & gastronomy and today is the summer symbol of Lisbon.

Charming reminders of adventure, travel, and the beauty and triumph of seeking or enjoying the good life,  these decorative sardines are conversation starters and tokens of the intersection of Portuguese humor and art.
