Antique English Champagne Carrying Basket

Antique English Champagne Carrying Basket

From a time when bubbly was more popular in England than France, a carrier for ferrying champagne bottles from the cellar of an English estate.

The wicker is beautifully patinated and the basket itself lightly deformed by the weight of large champagne bottles. Minor loss to the wicker is to be expected, but overall this is a strong basket with a substantial, and rigid handle of wicker wrapped around bentwood. The partitions are also wicker and bentwood.
