Gail's Artisan Bakery

An iconic bakery, one whiff upon entering and it is difficult to do anything but swoon over the stacks, rows, and piles of baked everything. The smell is intoxicating and homey and more than makes up for the cramped seating in these tiny city bakeries dotted throughout London boroughs. Proper English savory and sweet scones, tarts, biscuits, loaves of artisanally made bread, salads, and delicious coffee made with hand roasted beans from Union in East London. Eating at Gail’s is addictive and rest assured that the ingredients are second to none, the food is fresh, and both body and soul will crave the experience. Good news! Gail’s has a cookbook featuring many of the bakeries most popular items.

Unable, more likely unwilling, to try another breakfast spot, opportunity to test the variety of options presented only one obstacle: how to choose. With great deliberation, it was an unanimous decision to try two each and cut into bite-sized pieces. The Maple Brioche Buns, Fruit & Nut Sourdough with butter & jam, Sausage Rolls, and Queen of Tarts (a modern reworking of the classic British dessert, Queen of Puddings) all earned fork wars for the last bites on the plates.
